A new issue of the Asia-Pacific News Brief on the occasion of the Russian Business Week released21 March

A new issue of the Asia-Pacific News Brief on the occasion of the Russian Business Week is released.

The publication opens with a Foreword by from Dr. Alexander Shokhin, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) (in Russian, in English).

Then comes an analysis of the New Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank establishment as a response to increasing demand for infrastructure finance in developing countries, concerns over the ability of the existing multilateral development banks (MDBs) to respond effectively to this challenge, the leading emerging economies strive to enhance their role in international financial institutions and effective allocation of accumulated reserves (in Russian, in English).

Within a short period, the new development banks have managed to launch their operations. A significant proportion of the NDB loans and almost all AIIB funds will be allocated for projects in the Asia-Pacific countries. Thus, the new banks will make a significant contribution to addressing the priorities of the Asia-Pacific regional institutions, especially in the areas of clean energy, infrastructure and transport interconnectivity, and help facilitate sustainable economic growth.

The overview of the G20/OECD Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Action Plan implementation focuses on the experience of China, India, Indonesia and Russia, highlighting the best practices and some lessons learnt (in Russian, in English).

The review of the investment climate in some of the key APR developing economies (in Russian, in English) explores measures which proved their effectiveness in liberalizing investment regimes in China, India, Indonesia and Russia: implementation of comprehensive strategies and promotion of relevant information among a wide range of national and foreign economic agents. A typical characteristic of such programmes is elimination of structural bottlenecks of investment climate related to infrastructure constraints, regional imbalances, excessive monopolization and institutional complexities.

The mega-regional new generation trade agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership transform the regulatory environment for trade and investment at the national, regional and global levels. The large Eurasian partnership should be built with due consideration of these changes, on the principles of the parties equality, balance of interests and transparency (in Russian, in English).

The publication presents an overview of the business climate in Vietnam, the country hosting the APEC 2017 presidency, and the first country concluding a free trade agreement with EAEU (in Russian, in English).

The special issue concludes with a brief on the forthcoming APEC CEO summit (in Russian, in English) and the main statistical indicators for the APR countries (in Russian, in English).
